Foreword
This Market Leaders report identifies which IP TV systems and software companies are leading each of the IP TV markets globally and within the four regional markets that we track. We have measured market position using estimates of the actual number of active IP TV subscribers that are using, or being supported by, the company’s products for all product segments except the Video Headends. The number of subscribers supported is a direct measure of position of each company for all product categories, except one. For the Video Headends, we have measured market position using estimates of the number of IP TV channels that are be provided using the company’s products. Since a Video Headend may support two thousand or two million subscribers, the number of channels is a much better measure of each company’s market position. This methodology gives a good measure of the relative position of each company as well as the prospects for future growth.
We rate each of these companies based on their market position using the following scale:
- Dominant: The company supports a large portion of the applicable subscriber base with no other competitor supporting a similar number of subscribers.
- Leader: The company is one of a small number of companies that support a large number of subscribers with the other competitors supporting significantly fewer subscribers.
- Participant: The company supports a significant number of subscribers but does not qualify as dominant or as a leader.
- Emerging: The company has recently entered the market and is not yet supporting a large number of subscribers.
In addition, we rate the growth prospects for each company based on the number of large IP TV service deployments in which the company is participating:
- Regional Market Leader rankings:
- Strong growth prospects “*” in the Regional Market Leaders section means that the company is participating in one significant IP TV deployment.
- Very strong growth prospects “**” in the Regional Market Leaders section means that the company is participating in at least two significant IP TV deployments.
- Global Market Leader rankings:
- Strong growth prospects “*” in the Global Market Leaders section means that the company is participating in two significant IP TV deployments.
- Very strong growth prospects “**” in the Global Market Leaders section means that the company is participating in at least three significant IP TV deployments.
A significant deployment is one that has been announced and is expected to grow by at least 100,000 subscribers in 2005 or 2006.
This report includes the Asian, European, North American, and Rest of the World (ROW) regions.
